I’m all in for snacking season!

But I’m also here to say that can the homemade Chex Mix take a step back this year?  I’m thinking something a little more crunchy and cheesy right about now.

It’s that time of year – the holiday parties, the potlucks, the gifting, and the football games. And I’m all in to make a big batch of parmesan garlic ranch seasoned pretzels. Giant crunchy pretzels broken into small pieces and tossed in a buttery parmesan garlic ranch sauce that just hugs the pretzels and makes them extra crunchy in the oven for party season.

It’s no surprise that these seasoned pretzels went flying out of the bowl at our Friendsgiving party this year. I feel like my job has evolved into inviting people to our home and using them as guinea pigs to test recipes on them. Thank goodness they are all troopers and are always willing to be taste testers with honest opinions ☺️ We even had a friend mention that there was no need to explain any further when the words ‘garlic’ and ‘ranch’ had already escaped our lips describing these homemade pretzel pieces. Can you tell we’re friends with them because they’re our kind of people?

All friendships should start with the word garlic.

Have you ever had those broken pretzel pieces that come in a bag seasoned with jalapeño or my personal favorite, honey mustard, and onion? I assume they make those with broken pretzel pieces from when they’re packaging the hard pretzels. Smart, right?

So what are we looking at here? Bite-sized pieces of hard pretzels that I threw into a zip-top bag and gave a good beating to when my pecan pie cheesecake bars recipe didn’t exactly turn out the way I had hoped. You lose some, and then sometimes you win big, like the way I did with these seasoned pretzel pieces.

And can I say how perfect these garlic parmesan seasoned pretzel pieces are for entertaining? I mean, make a cheeseboard, a batch of these pretzels, some Christmas crack, maybe some firecracker chicken meatballs or the honey-chipotle kind if you’re into that sort of thing, a hot chocolate bar if you’re entertaining kids or decorating the tree with family. And there you go!

The whole fam can munch and nibble on this stuff!

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST GARLIC RANCH SEASONED PRETZELS:

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 250ºF. You want to keep the temperature low so that the pretzels and the parmesan don’t burn. Low and slow is the way to go when you’re making homemade pretzel pieces. Then, line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. If you decide to go the foil route, spray it with a bit of cooking spray to keep things from sticking.
  2. Break the pretzels into bite-sized pieces. You can do this by just snapping the pretzels one by one or place them in a zip-top bag, and give them a few good whacks with a rolling pin. Just be sure to not make pieces that are too small, because they’ll bake much much faster. Place the broken pretzel pieces in a large bowl. Then, melt the butter in a glass measuring cup or bowl and stir in the ranch, garlic, parsley, sugar, oil, and parmesan.
  3. Pour the prepared sauce over the pretzels and using a rubber spatula toss until all the pretzel pieces are evenly coated in the garlic ranch mixture. Then, spread the pretzel pieces out on the baking sheet in a single layer and bake the pretzels for 35-40 minutes or until they are crispy and golden. You’ll need to check on the pretzel pieces every 15 minutes and give them a toss or stir so that everything bakes up evenly. Allow them to cool for an hour or until they are room temperature before storing them in an airtight container.

HOW DO I STORE PREPARED GARLIC RANCH SEASONED PRETZELS?

Place the seasoned pretzel pieces in an air-tight container once they are cooled completely. Pretzels will last at room temperature for up to 1 week, but I doubt they’ll last that long once you taste them!

I love making homemade garlic ranch seasoned pretzel pieces because not only are the flavors more customizable (I haven’t found a garlic ranch-flavored one yet) but also because a batch of these feeds a crowd! You could even double the quantity if you’re making this for a massive party.

And can I just say that I wouldn’t mind getting a box of homemade seasoned pretzels as a gift?

Parmesan Garlic Ranch Seasoned Pretzels

Ingredients

  • 1 (13-ounce) box or bag hard pretzels
  • 2 tablespoons EACH: ranch seasoning AND sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 5 tablespoons EACH: avocado or vegetable oil AND melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. PREP: Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven to 250ºF. Line a large baking tray with parchment paper, or if you line it with foil, spray generously with cooking spray.
  2. MIX: Break the pretzels into bite-sized pieces either by hand or by placing them in a zip-top bag and giving them a couple of whacks. Be careful not to make crumbs, you want the pieces to be bite-sized so that they don't over bake. Place them in a large bowl. In a 2 cup measuring cup, whisk together the ranch seasoning, garlic powder, parsley, sugar, vegetable oil, melted butter, and parmesan cheese. Pour the prepared sauce and stir or toss the pretzels to coat them evenly. Alternately, you could also do this in a clean (crumb-free) gallon-sized zip-top bag and just shake to combine the ranch mix and the pretzels.
  3. BAKE: Spread the pretzels out on to the prepared baking tray in an even, single layer. If they don’t all fit on one baking sheet, it’s best to spread them out onto two so that they bake evenly. Bake them for 35-40 minutes, stirring them every 15 minutes so that they brown evenly. Allow them to cool completely and then place them in an airtight container for up to 1 week!

Notes

  • if you are using store-bought ranch seasoning, you will need a 1-ounce packet.
